Better Functional Designs by Paper Prototyping

ImageBeing users of a computer software and website, its often hard to judge the efforts and methods used to create them. Though a varied form of approaches and stages exist, one all-time favorite has been paper prototyping.

Prototypes are useful in determining the exact shape and functionality of a product/software. Just as new designs of cars and automobiles are tested by first carving prototypes of them, the interface and functional aspects of computer programs and websites are also tested by using paper based prototypes.

Introduced since early 1980′s, Paper Prototyping is one of the first stages of software development. No special artistic skills are needed for this, and stress is laid on checking and finalizing the functional contents of every screen or window rather than the graphical beauty of things.

Used by some of the biggest corporations involved in the development of Computer Software, paper prototyping finds usage in the development of applications used on computers, mobile phones, kiosks and many more smart devices.

The entire process of paper prototyping involves creating cutouts of sketches containing various parts of a screen. These are then used to put together the entire screen on a sheet of paper to represent the feel of things to come.
